Handspring was trying to retain the fun and trendiness of its early multicolored, translucent models while moving towards a more sophisticated appearance that highlighted the advancing capabilities of newer products. Surface Work helped develop plastics and coated metal finishes and upscale badging concepts that moved the new lines forward. Color development extended to screen masks and the UI areas as Handspring sought to optimize early interface technologies.
